How to make parts.

It would be great if someone would create a cross target part for the position of a hole?
Also can someone explain why when you type a measurement to position a hole why it changes to a dimension different to what you typed in. I at first thought it was because I had snap to grid on, but it made no difference when i disabled it.

Steps I took that resulted in the problem:

Hi, I downloaded Fritzing, used it to make a schematic with Arduino UNO, saved it and a couple of weeks later Fritzing and the schematic are completely gone from my computer

What I expected should have happened instead:

It shouldn’t have disappeared?!

My version of Fritzing and my operating system:

Catalina

Please also attach any files that help explaining this problem

What do you mean by “cross target”? What functionality different from the base Hole part? Turn the pointer into cross hairs?

For the values in inspector, it is due to rounding. Computers normally store numbers as binary values, which sometimes do not translate exactly to and from decimal. That combined with the needed internal conversions to adjust for the units of the part compared to the sketch, and any transform (scaling or rotation) built into the part means that some numbers just do not “work”, and get adjusted to the nearest value that does work. Or maybe more descriptive, you tell it where you want it, and the program goes through those translation processes, and tells you where it actually ended up.

A program or file will not just go away on its own. Either you are not looking in the right spot (I am not really a Mac person, but I assume you are using “finder” to locate it), or something deleted it. Did you do any sort of “rollback” or operating system level “undo” or “restore” since you did the schematic? With both the program and the document missing, that seems the most likely explanation.

Do you have multiple user identities on the computer? The files will probably only be visible to the user that installed the program and created the document.

Did you actually install Fritzing, or just download and run it? If that is what you did, it was probably sitting in the download, or other temporary folder, which could have been cleaned up, either manually or automatically.

I downloaded it again and it is working fine but like you said its not showing up in my applications, Usually when you download an app it is installed on your computer?

I just dragged and dropped it into my applications. Usually it gives you this option but it didn’t this time. Thanks Merlin

Not a mac person, but otherwise no. Downloading does not install a program. Programs normally need to be installed after they are downloaded. Some, like Fritzing, will run without being installed. All of the other (non-mac) Fritzing downloads need to be at least unpacked before they can be used.

This can vary based on the meaning of “app” and “download”. An app manager can do the download, unpack, and install together. Terminology and context dependent.

Thank you for your reply!
Sorry my terminology was unclear, yes I mean ‘Cross Hair’ to mark the position of a hole. Are you saying that you can change a hole symbol to a cross hair? If so how?
I guess the small difference in the dimensions would not make the positioning too far out.

Here is the deal, no more spamming the FORUM. After you re-activate, your account will be suspended, if you continue on this path… No more accounts will be allowed from your IP address.

So follow the rules. If the part doesn’t exist, don’t just expect someone to make it for you. Try to do it yourself so you can contribute back to our community. You didn’t want someone to build your project too, did you? No more inept actions, put in an effort and resolve will come…

Sorry for the late reply, my network connection is currently dead (which is why I haven’t been responding) and I’m currently on a borrowed machine without the .fzz file here. I’ll post it (since I seem to have missed doing so  ) when I get a chance. It may take a while though.

Sorry for the late reply ( my network connection is dead and I am on a borrowed machine at the moment), the mounting holes are just holes, they don’t (or shouldn’t) have a connector id. Thus Fritzing doesn’t change them to red as they aren’t a connection but if you set a non zero copper ring they should be plated through (which it sounds like they are) although you don’t necessarily want plating through on mounting holes (to eliminate it set the ring width to 0). As to your pads, I just got back the boards I made with the new pads here:

and they appear to work fine. You may want to switch to them. They are smaller than the ones in the original shield but allow stacking connectors and will route a standard width trace between pins without drc complaints.

Hello,

*would like to decrease size of the “step” when drawing wires, or moving components.
for exemple, I am making a break out for a SSOP 48, but I can’t do it with current setting:

thank you

If you’re talking about traces, just select the trace and punch any number up to 128 in Inspector.
You can do the same with “select all traces” and change the Inspector trace width for all of them at once.
