Program dies when I try to do a file open

Thanks for the sugestions, but still no luck. I removed the suggested files and same result - I get a windows popup that say that "Fritzing has stopped working" with the only option to close the program. I tried the debugging log, and the next time I open Fritzing, the debug txt says "Check new version no error" I then deleted all fritzing files (program) and reloaded fritzing from the zip file. I run Fritzing and click on the file open bug and I get the same result.

It's hard to understand because Google Translate uses different words than what we use in Fritzing, like .fzpz = part - .fzp = bin - .fzz = sketch. I bet if we knew what was going on, someone would know what to do.

Google Translate

I'll post the English translation of the posts if someone knows the solution

Help,

Have at once 2 MINE assortments.

But I can not delete any of it. With the right mouse button on the MINE icon offers in both versions only a gray "delete collection". So the function is not active.

How do I get one now deleted?

I have already deleted the folder Fritzing under "Documents". The two MINE always come back.

I have even exchanged the zip file of Fritzing - in vain.

What to do?

Hello Old_Grey,

Thank you ever for the quick reply.

Unfortunately I can not find there a file with the name of the assortment ....

I've also searched under: C: \ Users \ MP \ AppData \ Roaming \ Fritzing, but also found nothing.

I'm pretty angry at the moment. I just got an even bigger problem.

I have since yesterday evening to import over 1000 fzpz files into Fritzing. I've been looking for them all the time. Why is there no direct possibility for people who have created a fzpz files to upload this at Fritzing so that this can then be installed as an update package for components. This means that all users would immediately be able to replenish the created components. So everyone is looking for parts ...
Adafruid does something with these fzbz files. They are simply released again and again on their side and you only need to download and install this one file and you have all the new components.
Why does Fritzing not so synonymous?

To collect the files at Github I find cruel. You have such a nice website, why swing elsewhere? Something like this has to happen automatically anyway. See the Arduino IDE. There comes a message, which there are updates for boards, finished. This is how it must run!

The most important thing with such a program is the building database. Because I am missing with Fritzing several important things in the service, I'm also times away from Fritzing and I've looked at other programs.
Since there are these important functions, but not a pool of parts as with Fritzing. Above all, not such as Adafruid etc .. So actually a great plus point against other programs, but unfortunately this is not fully utilized.

Then import these problems.
Unfortunately, you can not select multiple files when you import. So nice to import all files individually .......

Since I have nowhere a guidance on the assortment management has found (in the net and not under Learning- The Part Library is only a list) I have a little rumprobiert (with few files) and seemingly found, which one the course of course can save and the parts From the assortment to a fzbz file (see Adafruit). As far as great. I have a problem with files or Install Fritzing on a different computer, I need only the fzb files under Documents..bins copy. In addition, I have still the parts for documents..parts \ users exported.
That has also worked well. Fritzing finished, restarted, everything still there, everything great.

So, now I have the over 200 files imported between and saved, until the question came out, the assortments are to be saved. I so again on yes and when restarting Fritzing are all files only 1k large. And it comes a message with "it could not be found all the components"

Can Fritzing not save so much files? Why did the query even though I did not change anything after saving? Why are my files almost destroyed.

I know the Fritzing still has Betastadium, but something like that can not be ...
Should I change now to another program and it again in 1 or 2 years?

I find the approach of Fritzing great, but I am now afraid that this happens to me again.
So can anyone explain to me this assortment administration?

By the way, I remember just one last night, which I wanted to change the small octagonal icon of the assortments. Unfortunately, you can only officially change the color, companies like Adafruid have their own icons .....
At least the color should be able to change according to right mouse button on it. So change color in the pop-up window, and - nothing happens, no color change ..... Great.

A frustrated user.

Hello,

I have now cleared everything out of frustration.

Also at:
C: \ users \ username \ AppData \ Fritzing \ roaming \ Fritzing
and
C: \ Users \ username \ My files \ Fritzing

Have a new assortment created, parts of Core inline. Then the assortment is saved and exported. Program finished, when asked whether the assortment should be stored I said NO.

So, the assortment incl. Parts sit still there, but there is the assortment now 2 times.
This is a bug, or ........?

An even more frustrated user

Hello Old_Grey,

I am very happy with the breadboard view. The only problem is the problem with inserting the parts and the bug with the assortments.
However, I have now found out no matter how to import, the most important is to export the assortment.

Then one can export this exported file with problems completely again completely. Perhaps in one of the next versions the problem is fixed yes.

I will also stay with Fritzing because I like the program.

Maybe a new Fritzing version will come soon with even more comfort. For example, I'm missing a group of parts. Then you could move a group of parts as a whole.

The behind Fritzing only a small number of people stand, I did not know. And for nothing. Respect.

Thanks for the information.

Have a nice Sunday.

Ground fill, export to Gerber

Hi Guys

The problem seems to be with the ground fill in Fritzing. If I export without ground fill, all traces pull through as expected. As soon as I add the "ground fill" some of the traces disappear. I have checked that all traces are connected.

I do believe that this is a "known bug" in Fritzing. Is there a work around for it?

Below if an example of what I mean...

Thank you

Thanks guys.

I did use the BOM html file that Fritzing generates, but only to populate a more useful spreadsheet with fields for the purchase links and datasheets etc. Here are links to the schematic and the BOM. If you have a chance to take a quick look it would be much appreciated.

If you see any critical errors please point them out. Obviously I'd prefer to get it as right as possible before sending off for board fabrication and ordering parts.

Cheers

I do not believe it is a bug but instead those traces are all ground traces that are connected to the ground fill seed you selected.

Hello,

Can we use Fritzing schematic in commercial web site ?

For example if we ressell some arduino boards on our web site, can we make and describe application note of theses arduino board on our web site with Fritzing schematic (if we still put the fritzing word on each schematic) ?

Thank's for your answers.

I received notification that there was an update available for my parts library but once updated I cannot find any information or documentation about what changes / additions were made.

If this is an oversight please could we in future get some documentation about changes made.

If this is already provided please could someone tell me where to find this info.

Thanks.

What is the difference between ground & copper fill? When will you use one over the other. I'm so lost with all of this and have been going in circles on the interweb.

If I have use ground fill, some of my ground traces disappear. If I use copper fill, all the traces are displayed. When submitting the board to AISLER, the ask for the board to be ground fill. My first batch came back with missing traces.

The links given aren't to fritzing parts, only to data on the board. There isn't a part for this particular board for fritzing yet as far as I know. Are you looking for this particular board or just any L298?

The difference is ground fill is connected to all traces that are part of the ground seeds you selected. You use ground fill usually to reduce noise between traces/components. Copper fill is simply filling the unused space with copper and serves little purpose other than reducing the amount of copper that has to be removed from the board during etching/milling.

You say missing traces but again from you previous picture they are not missing but rather they are all now part of the ground plane. If you use a multi-meter to check continuity between ground pads you will see they are still connected as before doing the ground fill and nothing has been removed.

Now if you have selected the wrong pads as ground fill seeds then your board will not work and you will need to clear the ground fill seeds and set them up again making sure you only select pads that are part of your ground (v-) net.

Aah, sublimeartistry. After reading your initial response it dawn upon me. I really had that light bulb moment. I now get how the fill works. It also minimizes that amount of traces (space as well) that has to be printed out on the PCB, essentially.

I still have issues with my boards, but that was a step in the right direction. This is my first PCB, so learning as I go along.

Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Program dies when I try to do a file open

This is a new fault as far as I know. There have been problems in parts search on Win10 when some of the windows patches have failed, but not file open as far as I know. If you don't try and open a file (which I know isn't useful  ) does it continue to run? If so you might try clicking on help->check for updates and see what happens. Fritzing tries to check github for new parts at every startup, and sometimes (especially if it got interrupted) the parts database gets corrupted but deleting the user files usually corrects that as long as it completes correctly on the reinstall (it does pause for a longish time on startup while it makes does the update and there is no progress bar or indication it is doing anything, you just have to wait and it will eventually complete). Its also possible that the latest patch set has broken something (although it hasn't for me on Win7). The failure (a windows popup that Fritzing has stopped working) is typical of a corrupted parts database though (that is usually the c:\users\username\AppData\Fritzing\roaming\Fritzing directory), I believe there is a Fritzing bug that an exception doesn't get handled somewhere if the database gets corrupted (or in my case when I screw up making a new part, which shows up as corruption in the parts database  ) and that is how it shows up, but deleting the two directories and starting again (after correcting the error in the new part) has always fixed it for me. I take it that the debug console doesn't say anything useful when you try and open a file and it fails? Other than that I'm out of suggestions, hopefully someone else may have an idea.

It sounds like this directory has become corrupted (it is a database, and thus the mine files may not show up as files). The usual solution is to delete the C: \ Users \ MP \ AppData \ Roaming \ Fritzing directory and let Fritzing recreate it (you may want to just rename it to save a copy and let Fritzing create a new one). Note this may break any new parts that you have added (and it sounds like you have added a lot) so you may have to reinstall them all again. I believe you can create libraries of parts files (that is what adafruit does I think), but I haven't done it and don't see any obvious documentation (perhaps someone else has a pointer?).
(edit:) It looks like what adafruit did is export an entire bin. That forms the fbz file and apparantly can be re imported as a group. I expect that you move the parts you want in to a new bin and then export that.

Nothing leaps out at me as being wrong particularly. That said, I'm lazy and I would replace much of this with an Arduino nano board. Taking the parts cost of just the mega, ch340, fuse, ldo and the crystal and regulator I come up with $7 US for the parts without the time to assemble and program the bootloader. For about $2.75 US (from ebay I assume the same on other sites) I can buy an assembled and bootloader programmed arduino nano (5V 16 mhz though, there doesn't appear to be a 3.3V version, although there is a conversion tutorial to 3.3V on the net). For that you get the usb/micro combo with the bootloader programmed on a smallish board that you can replace much of your circuitry with. Much better chance that it will work first time than trying to build your own from scratch. If you can use 5V rather than 3.3 even easier.
