Ground fill dashed lines

You should always route all your ground traces even when using ground fill. It will just cover all the traces with ground fill as if they are not there. By routing them you can be sure that all the parts you want grounded are actually grounded since Fritzing doesn’t actually care if ground fill is complete and acting as a trace. It simply fills in all the empty space with copper and connects to any net that has at least one ground seed. Also once you have the ground traces connected you only need to set the ground fill seed on a single connection that is part of the ground net you have created with traces.

Fritzing doesn’t really have a mechanism to create irregular shaped copper areas other than ground fill. There are ways of working around this to create such an area. Here is a tutorial on making a capacitive touch pad which is a solder mask covered copper area like you are looking for. How to Make Capacitive Touchpads in Fritzing

You could also use the Logo part in the core parts bin to import an SVG of the shape you want and then use that as your copper area.

If often moves to the bottom of the list. Try using the arrow buttons at the bottom of the list of parts bins to see if it is all the way at the bottom.

It it isn’t at the bottom of the list, then there is a late thread on github where someone found that their AV package was blocking writes to the bin:

As well if you are on Windows, it appears that parts update has broken so to get the latest parts you need to download the repository from github and manually install it. Linux and probably the Mac are still working.

I’m pretty happy with the triangular area I have created. This technique can be extended to make any polygon shaped object, however, a large number of extra Vias may be required. In my case, I want the Vias anyways, because they acting as thermal Vias – since the voltage regulator may be a source of heat.

Thank you. That’s what I wanted to know.

I’ve searched for it. It’s not on the list anywhere.

Custom Solder Mask Keep-out Shape?

Please! I know it’s been a while, but could you share how you did this?
Could you perhaps share the SVG so I could investigate in illustrator?
Thanks!

Most of the information is available in the previous posts on how this is done. As for the SVG you can import the part from above and then in the editor export the PCB SVG. You could also take the above part and rename it to .zip and then unzip it and you will find all the SVGs that way. The last thing I would like to add is that Illustrator can cause scaling issues that are very hard to correct at times. I would recommend either using Inkscape or just editing the SVG you get from the part above and not making your own unless you know exactly how to get the DPI to be correct for Fritzing to get the scale correct.

That is fairly easy, just make sure the drawing size height and width in the first element of the xml is not in px, Either in or mm (your choice) sets the scale correctly, Fritzing only guesses when the height and width are in px (sometimes wrong!). I use Inkscape but I assume illustrator will let you set this as well.

I don’t think anyone will draw all that unless it just the green PCB and header.

What view do you want, ie SCH, PCB, BB

It is easy enough to do a simple copy of the board (less than all the parts showing  ) as all it really needs is the connector and board outline in BB, PCB view would presumably be a 6 pin header as it doesn’t look like it will mount on a board.

If you search in the forums there have been posts about this in the past. I don’t know that we ever found a real solution as people didn’t report success usually (if they in fact had success). Reading the old posts may help.

Thick coloured lines in SCH

What is the convention of the thick coloured lines in this SCH that is connected to multiple pins. Like does it mean they are groupings of individual traces, because the yellow one looks weird.

The guy doesn’t give you the full design files, even though he says it’s open source, so I have to do the design again and hack what I want. And because he said, “Please note the Rabbit ECU is a shield product that needs either an Arduino Due or ECUHost V1.4 controller that needs to be purchased separately.” and I can see both in the SCH and don’t need the ECUHost V1.4 controller, I want to delete all of it.

They look to be bus connectors (in the normal EDA sense instead of Fritzings  ). Each thick line contains all the connections (it looks like 6 or more on your yellow line) which can break out as individual connections at other points on the board which looks like what is happening here. So you need to use the labels to figure out where the connection comes out. The labels should match on both ends of the connection.

I’m not very good at these things so I didn’t know if it was one of those one wire things that send pulses to control stuff, ie neopixel. So just run individual traces to pins with the same label.

You are correct! All I had to do was connect MSIO directly to the arduino and it works!
Sorry for the delay. It took me awhile to get the time and then even longer to breadboard it, then figure out my PCB.
Thanks!!

Yep that should do it. Finding them all may be exciting though, it isn’t very readable  .

Wish me luck.:grinning:

What we learnt today.:joy:

Don’t duplicate a net label and change the name, or FZ will think it’s the same thing and connect the 2. It won’t let you delete the ratsnest without disconnecting the pin, but a save and reopen fixes it.
